The surgery is closed between 18:00 - 08:30 Monday to Friday and all over weekends and bank holidays. if you require urgent medical advice outside of working hours please telephone the Shropdoc out-of-hours service on 0844 406 8888.

 

Out of Hours Medical Care

 

This is provided by Shropshire Doctor’s Co-operative – Shropdoc. Shropdoc is run by local doctors.

 

When you call Shropdoc, you will be answered by trained call handlers: they are not doctors or nurses. The call handlers will take basic details and will identify any life threatening conditions which may require a 999 call.

 

You will then be called back either by a doctor or a nurse, usually within 1 hour. The doctor or nurse will discuss your medical condition with you. It may be possible to resolve your health concerns with advice over the telephone or with a prescription to a pharmacy. When appropriate you will be offered an appointment to see a Shropdoc GP in a Primary Care Centre or a home visit may be required depending on the severity of your condition.

Primary Care Centres

 

These are located within community or district general hospitals. Patients are given an appointment time to be seen in these centres to avoid unnecessary waiting. The centres are not walk-in centres.

 

The Primary Care Centres local to Church Stretton are:

 

Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (adjacent to A&E) Mytton Oak Road, Shrewsbury

 

Ludlow Community Hospital Gravel Hill, Ludlow (Shropdoc is located in the outpatient dept, access is from the New Road entrance)

You can also call 111 NHS Direct You can dial 111 or alternatively you can access none urgent assistance from NHS Direct . A triage nurse will assess your situation and take appropriate action. This could simply be by offering advice or where necessary by making arrangements for you to be seen by a doctor.
