Strettondale PPG

A Patient Participation Group (PPG) is normally made of practice staff and patients that are representative of the practice population. In some cases, the PPG could be facilitated by patients with no practice invlolvement. The main aim of the PPG is to ensure that patients are involved in decisions about the range and quality of services provided and, over time, commissioned by the practice. Using the PPG, GP practices are encouraged to promote the proactive engagement of patients and to seek views from practice patients through the use of local practice surveys

Here at Church Stretton Medical Practice we are proud to have a patient group who provide us with insight into the views, thoughts and ideas of our patients.

The group was established very recently but has already been very supportive by helping us to produce a patient survey.

The Strettondale Patient Participation Group considers that all 7300+ patients of the practice are members. The Group meets as a committee monthly and the committee has 10 members. The committee is a mix of men and women ranging in age from 35 to 80.

To try and obtain wider views, the patient group is actively trying to recruit a young member(s) through the local school. The group would like to hear more from teenagers and young adults but we do appreciate it is not always possible with busy lives to attend meetings. If you would like to be more involved but would find attending meetings difficult please contact the patient group via StrettondalePPG@hotmail.co.uk or use the suggestion/message box in the waiting room of the practice. A member of the group will then contact you to discuss how your views can be represented regularly in a way that is convenient to you.

Members of the patients’ group have experience of a range of medical conditions and situations and this knowledge is very valuable in helping us support specific needs; however they are also very proud of their role in bringing forward the views of all members of the community and support every patient to have their concerns and comments heard if they are asked to do so.

The results of the recent survey can be found by clicking here. These results were discussed with the patients’ group and the following actions have been agreed:

Work on a reduction in the time it takes to get an appointment with the doctor of a patient’s choice

Improvements to the waiting room and to improve privacy at reception within constraints of the building

Act on receptionists’ communication skills

For more information about the patient group, please contact the group via StrettondalePPG@hotmail.co.uk or via the suggestion/message box in the waiting room of the practice.
