Lydham Friday Market began in its present format on 5th April 2013 (although there were Friday markets in the distant past dating back to 16th April 1247 when Lydham was granted a Royal Charter). The current market began when the Fruit & Veg stall, the Bread stall and the Ethnic Clothing stall found it necessary to relocate after many years at Bishops Castle Town Hall, due to rennovation work. They had wanted to remain in Bishops Castle but sadly no suitable venue was found, despite determined efforts by the Town Council and the stall holders themselves.
Lydham was considered an ideal venue, due to the lovely hall, the large car park, being on a main road, and the proximity to our existing customer base. At Lydham Village Hall the 3 traders were joined straight away by a Cheese stall and the Cafe. The market was very popular with customers right from the word go and soon went from strength to strength, with new stalls joining us - plants, knitted clothing, and chocolate. We aim to offer a good selection of stalls and services, with a mixture of regular weekly stalls for the staple items, together with a variety of more irregular stalls to keep things interesting.
