Market
Usual Attendance at Market: Weekly
Mrs Sheila Young began her knitting business 25-30 years ago and is assisted in Lydham by her son, Malcolm. She began her knitting for her grand-children whilst recouperating from several operations. As she could no longer help on the family farm, Mrs Young felt she needed a new project to focus on and acquired a knitting machine.
The business took off as a result of a black jumper with red roses on which she knitted for a grand-daughter. When her grand-daughter wore the jumper to Brownies, all her friends wanted one too and she was inundated with orders.
Mrs Young makes all her knitted clothes herself and draws inspiration for her designs from her farming background – eg tractors, farm animals. She also uses designs which may appeal to children from towns, such as cars, to cater for customers from more urban areas. Her many grand-children and great grandchildren also inspire her designs. There are variety of jumpers, cardigans, hats etc for sale, in many different sizes, designs and colours and they are very popular.
